Selendang baby slings from Beginnings have a incredible
variety in designs. The use of a Selendang or Slendang and Sarong for carrying
a baby originates from Indonesia. These baby carriers are made from cotton
decorated with batik.
Baby slings
When a
Selendang or Sarong is used for carrying a baby it is knotted and carried like a sling over one
shoulder and above the other hip, with the knot on the back or in front just below the collarbone. £13.-
During the first months the Selendang is used for a baby cradled
in front of you or sitting upright looking towards you, later your baby will be sitting up on your hip, on
your back or in front of you.
The slings can also be used in the torso carrying position which
comes from Africa (see
Torso Carriers).
Especially the Sarongs are long and wide enough to be used in many more ways, like a skirt or as a stole,
on the beach or at a picnic.
Depending on the region where they are made, there are
differences in colours and designs. The picture on the right is from the serie "garden"
100% cotton
